Sailing from marina Veruda in Pula towards Cres, visit to Martinscica,
Lubenica, Pomer, Medulin and Pjescana Uvala.
We
arrived in Pula on 25th June and although our boat was ready
for sail we decided to go shopping first. After provisioning the
boat we went to our favourite Konoba Restaurant ''Biska''. This fabulous
residence is simply decorated but the food served there is fully organic
and it is served in a very efficient and friendly way. The meals
are well presented, fresh and taste lovely, value for money is
unprecedented.

After a
fantastic home made mushroom soup, absolutely amazing mixed Sopska salad
and a platter of veal accompanied by tasteful backed potatoes and a
glass of local Teran wine we rolled down the hill to marina Veruda.
Our Elan 434 Impression was ready already around 1pm and we decided to
board the yacht and set sail around the Istrian Peninsula.
Day 1
- 8NM:
The same afternoon we set off for Medulin where we anchored overnight.
Our dinghy journey to the coast did not prove very successful however as
one of us ended up in the sea, with a new mobile phone becoming a
history and a 100kn note releasing a strange colour on the fingers of
our co-skipper.
Day 2 - 35NM:
Tomorrow morning we set off for the crossing towards Cres. As there was
almost no wind we set our engine at 2000rpm and arrived in town of Cres
within 4h. We secured our boat on the town quay paying around 150kn for
the day and helpful local
assistant offered best of his service as well as advice about best
restaurants, bars, clubs and of course local market and fisherman
There was
a surprise awaiting for us, as our sponsorship tour was due to start only
tomorrow and not tonight. We therefore decided to sample the best of
what Cres has to offer, ate lunch in the local hotel and finished
partying in lovely bar.
Day 3 - 10NM
The day after our skipper woke up at 5am and went to fish market. He
bought some fantastic fish and later that day made a 3 course meal for
lunch including a fish soup, grilled sea wolf and lovely spinach and
potato mix to accompany it. During the day members of our team sailed
towards the exit of this lovely bay and spent all morning and early
afternoon practicing various navigation manoeuvres at sea. In the
evening we met with our Sponsorship organisers, chatted all night on deck and ended
up partying in the best bar on the island once again.
On the
first night of festival the beautiful singer Astrid introduced the whole
programme to an audience of almost 1000 at the Outside Cinema ‘’Susajda’’
and started singing some of the best Jazz songs ever.
These
included famous Croatian songs from legendary Frano Lasic ‘’Volim te
budalo mala’’ (I love you little full) which drew gasps and claps from
everyone present. The whole town was full of people and everyone
wanted to take part in the festival.
Day 4 - 10NM
The second night was even better with new artists coming around and
lifting the roof of the stage. During the day we set sail towards
Maslincica and also took a hike to fabulous Croatian tourist town of
Lubenice. This town is so high up the hill that eagles and other birds
are viewed from above rather then from underneath. The town itself
is built out of local stone as many other towns on Croatian islands and
is set at a cliff of almost 400m height. Lubenice are indeed
one of the top 50 locations to visit in the country and are an absolute
must on any sailing itinerary in Kvarner region. Walking up to the
top of the hill is a must and a wonderful, simply unforgettable
experience. The beach of Sveti Ivan is also one of the nicer in
the area and offers a perfect surrounding for a relaxing swim or intense
snorkelling before relaxing for the night.
That day
the wind picked up and reached more then 15kn allowing us to open up our
sails fully and test the performance of lovely Elan 434.
Day 5
- 10NM
The day after the festival turned out to be the most interesting as
we participated in the auction of photographs made by some of the best
local artists. It was also our main swimming day so we ended up
kayaking with two local girls who paddled past our yacht which obviously
did not go unnoticed. In return for a glass of wine and exchange
of some nice experiences, we ended up diving off the boat, snorkelling
and later eating on board. Later that night we explored few other
bars and local disco bar and retired to our boat early in the morning.
Day 6 - 40NM
On Sunday we set sail back to Istria and ended up in lovely Pjescana
Uvala where we anchored overnight. This lovely bay is one of the
favourite beaches in Istria and some of the surrounding villas are
absolutely worth exploring. In the evening we had a lovely fish
meal in a restaurant located directly above a reception area of Marina
Veruda where starters and tasty home made bread served as a side dish
before meals, are absolutely recommendable.

Day 7:
We checked out early in the morning but did not miss out on the
opportunity to have lunch at our favourite Konoba Biska once again.
