We chartered a LAGOON 500 catamaran en route from Dubrovnik to Split and ended up having a great and relaxing journey in a direction most try to avoid, namely up wind.  This was obviously not the case most of the time as Scirocco or Jugo blow mainly from S or SE, while when Bora is on, being at sea is not possible anyway.

Sailing from Dubrovnik, ACI Marina Komolac towards Primosten, covering Islands of Mljet, Korcula, Peljesac peninsula, Islands of Scedro, Hvar, Palmizana, Solta, Veli Drvenik and Primosten.

We arrived in Dubrovnik on 21st September 2009 and spent the night in a local apart house near the ACI Marina.  In the evening we strolled down the fabulous Stradun, the main Dubrovnik street and met with our friends from England. After a couple of glasses of wine, some of us went sleeping, others ended up partying in local disco bar Fuego.

Day 1 - 8NM:
Tomorrow morning we embarked on the ALRISHA, our Lagoon 500 already around 1pm and set sail towards the old harbour of Dubrovnik.  Seeing the city walls from the distance was already exciting, when we reached the town and the harbour the views, scenery and everything else was just extraoridinary.  After making numerous photos and short videos we set sail towards Polace on Island of Mljet.  Passing next to Kolocep and Elafiti Archipelago we decided not to stop over for a swim as it was our first day and we simply wanted to relax in a safe harbour rather then go on a further exploration journey. For that reason we have already arranged another similar boat to sail only around Dubrovnik next year.

In the late afternoon, just before a beautiful sun set we arrived in Polace on Mljet.  The harbour was long and wide, well protected from any winds and a line of restaurants along the shore suggested what we already knew. This was a true paradise for sailing enthusiasts who are after a good and deserved meal after an adventurous day at sea.  Local Konoba at the top of the bay proved the right choice with wonderful fish soup, grilled calamaris and home made local wine.  Dessert and the owners firm hand in relation to staff management did not prove the best of experiences, but overall we had a great night out and wonderful meal, highly recommendable.

Tomorrow morning after breakfast on board, we booked visit to local National Park and after a short van journey with a local ranger, we boarded a passenger boat to reach the park's location.  There we found a nice restaurant across a wonderful lake and natural surroundings that can only be dreamed of.  Remnants of the old church were also there so that plenty of photographs and short videos were made again. After a brief walk around the island we boarded our boat once again, in the last minute virtually, only to find out that we were the only one who managed to do so, as others cosily sat in the restaurant without paying attention to the schedule or the calls of the ranger, which one must say were subdued to say at least. Shortly afterwards, we arrived back to our boat and after another drink and newspaper round at our local restaurants we waived good bye to everyone and set off towards Korcula.

In Korcula we visited Marco Polo's house and local shops dedicated to history of the region.  Korcula is indeed a lovely place to visit as well as to leave, the only pity is we missed the famous Moreska dance which seems to be performed only during high season towards the end of July and during August.  The next day we visited Loviste bay at the tip of Peljesac peninsula where our favourite restaurant closed for the season. We decided to turn the oven on and our chef made us a fabulous meal including mushroom soup, roasted chicken with sweetest baked potatos you can imagine and a fabulous local pudding dessert all accompanied with several glasses of a home made wine we picked up in Korcula the day before,

Afterwards we open up sails fully and enjoyed a lovely crossing towards Hvar with a short stopover on Scedro island.  Hvar experience was trully wonderful and once can see the difference between the major tourist resort and a more deserted parts of Southern Adriatic visited previously. Hvar was full of nice yachts, people, flowers and fantastic surroundings on Pakleni Islands drew our attention to fabulous Totto's restaurant on Palmizana.  We had a short but great lunch there before setting for the night in neighbouring Milna where we had another fine meal, this time mainly veal or beef steaks, avoiding fish which we ate in previous days.

On the next day we explored Hvar island and its surroundings further before setting off towards Solta. In Martinscica we found a lovely 5* hotel with a perfectly designed Sunseeker Predator and Sunseeker Superhawk waiting for the owner and his crew.  This place is certainly highly recommendable both for a relaxing night out, luxury dinner on a lovely terrace or indeed a week holiday in its plush and extremely luxurious suites which by the way cost 420 Eur / day excluding breakfast !

On our penultimate day we visited VELI DRVENIK where in the KRKNJASI bay we had a swim, lunch and enjoyed counting the number of boats that shared the lovely location with us.

On the last day we returned to Primosten and despite an agreement to go and explore this lovely island town, we decided to retire early and chat to some of our clients who visited us on board.

As we also invited a professional writer on board of the yacht during our trip and for a more detailed story about the trip and the Lagoon 500, please visit http://www.yachtcharterguide.com/article/sailing_a_luxury_catamaran_in_southern_croatia/
